For many couples, a wedding simply wouldn't feel complete without their dog by their side. After all, they're family too.
The challenge is finding a way for your dog to be part of your wedding without leaving family or friends responsible for their care. That's where a professional Wedding Pet Attendant can make all the difference.
Recently, our Wedding Pet Attendant, Tayla, had the privilege of helping Titus the Poodle play a starring role in his dads' beautiful wedding in Simon's Town—and he absolutely stole the show.

Starting the Day Calm and Comfortable
While the wedding preparations were in full swing at the venue, Tayla stayed with Titus at his home in Observatory.
Rather than spending the morning surrounded by the excitement and noise of a busy wedding venue, Titus was able to stick to his normal routine. He enjoyed a walk, plenty of attention, and some quiet time before being groomed and dressed in a beautiful ribbon for his special role.
Keeping dogs relaxed before they arrive at a wedding is one of the most important parts of our service. A calm dog is far more likely to enjoy the experience and confidently take part in the day.
Once everyone was ready, Tayla safely transported Titus to the wedding venue in Simon's Town.
Greeting Guests Before the Ceremony
One of our favourite parts of the day is giving couples the opportunity to let their dog greet family and friends before the ceremony begins.
During the arrival and pre-drinks, Titus happily wandered between guests, soaking up cuddles, attention and plenty of compliments on how handsome he looked.
This is often the perfect time for dogs to socialise, as guests are relaxed and there's no pressure for the dog to perform any specific role.
The Perfect Ring Bearer
As ceremony time approached, Tayla quietly took Titus to the back of the aisle, allowing him to settle and observe everything happening around him.
When the moment arrived, the rings were securely fastened to his collar, and Titus confidently trotted down the aisle to deliver them to his dads.
Watching a beloved dog walk down the aisle is always one of the biggest highlights of a wedding, and Titus carried out his important job perfectly.

Celebrating the Marriage
After the ceremony, Titus stayed close by while his dads signed their marriage certificate.
He then joined them for family photographs, creating memories they'll treasure forever.
Rather than rushing home immediately afterwards, Titus was also able to mingle with guests during cocktail hour, giving everyone another opportunity to meet him and snap a few photos together.
Because Tayla remained with him throughout the day, his dads never had to worry about water breaks, toilet trips, excitement levels or making sure he was comfortable. They were free to simply enjoy their wedding.

Ending the Day with Peace of Mind
When Titus had enjoyed enough celebrations, Tayla safely drove him home to Observatory.
She stayed overnight with him, ensuring he was settled, fed, walked and comfortable while his parents continued celebrating with family and friends.
This is one of the biggest advantages of hiring a professional wedding dog handler. Your dog gets to be part of your wedding day, while you get to be fully present for every moment without worrying about their care afterwards.
Is a Wedding Pet Attendant Right for Your Dog?
Not every dog enjoys weddings, and that's perfectly okay. The dogs who usually thrive are those who genuinely enjoy meeting new people, are confident in busy environments, and are comfortable around unfamiliar sights and sounds.
At What a Treat Weddings, we always take the time to understand your dog's personality before recommending how involved they should be. For some, that might mean walking down the aisle as a ring bearer. For others, simply joining for family photos before heading home is the happiest option.
Every wedding is different, and every dog deserves an experience tailored to them.
Let Your Dog Be Part of Your Wedding
Whether you dream of your dog being your ring bearer, greeting guests during cocktail hour, appearing in your wedding photographs or simply sharing part of your special day, our professional Wedding Pet Attendants are there to make it happen safely and stress-free.
From collection at home and transport to the venue, to handling throughout the wedding and overnight care afterwards, we take care of every detail so you can focus on celebrating one of the biggest days of your life.
If you're planning a wedding in Cape Town and would love your dog to be part of your celebration, we'd love to help you create a day that's unforgettable for both you and your four-legged family member.
